Waterford Township has approved construction of a $477,845.00 new hockey rink at the Ritter Field Complex. The rink is being funded in a public space and by public money, the rink should be open for everyone. The town has decided to not allow inline or roller skating on the new rink, as they will only allow hockey to be played on sneakers. The town claims that rollerblades and roller skates will shorten the longevity of the asphalt surface. From the manufacturer of the asphalt coating's website it can stand up to the abuse from street shoes, roller skates, skateboards, vehicular traffic, and objects such as furniture legs. We believe that rollerblades and roller skates will not harm the surface, and the town is shutting out a significant population that would use the rink.
The next town meeting is Wed Sept 12 7pm at 2131 Auburn Ave, Atco, NJ 08004. Please attend and collect signatures! We need to show the committee that the public is on our side. Also remind them this is an election year!
